Atenție, cade tencuiala (Beware the falling plaster) is my long-term photographic study documenting the desolate reality of Romania's urban landscape, an aging, neglected environment deeply affected by seismic activity.
Since 2023, I have been documenting Bucharest and other Romanian cities that share the same structural weakness. My work focuses on the increasingly vulnerable pre-war and interwar architectural heritage, which, has already seen a number of significant earthquakes during in their lifespan.
The work highlights a systemic failure to provide safe housing, predominantly affecting low-income populations. Atenție, cade tencuiala explores the visual cues of urban survival: the "red dot" markers and the warning signs that serve as the only defense against crumbling facades. It is a portrait of a city held together by improvization and warnings, rather than restoration.
